Morija is a non-profit humanitarian association, working under its statutes and articles 60ss of the Swiss civil code. Morija means "The Eternal will provide" or, in accordance with another translation, "The Eternal sees". Therefore this name refers to the Christian values upon which the association was founded. It offers help on a social level, without any distinction of race nor religion, and its aim is to help orphans and deprived people of Africa in general and in Sahel more specifically.
In 1974, shocked by the magnitude of famine that Ethiopia was living, a group of Christians, led by Michel Raboud, rose and decided to say no to fatalism by offering its help, according to the words of St. Matthew 25 versicles 35 and 36: "For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, a stranger and you welcomed me, naked and you clothed me, ill and you cared for me, in prison and you visited me". |

Then, with each passing month and year, they became more and more solicited by churches or Christians movements. To the extent of its possibilities, the group lived up to their expectations and the association was eventually established.
Morija was founded in 1979 and its head office is in Bas-Valais, in Collombey-le-Grand. The association pursues 3 main goals: prevention, health and education. It supports projects spread out over 4 countries of the Sahel region: Burkina Faso, Togo, Cameroon and Chad

Colors of solidarity
|
|
- First aid.
Providing firsthand assistance to children and needy people who are hungry and cold, by giving them millet, clothes and basic treatments.
- Improvement of life conditions .
By sinking wells, building schools or financing medical care centers, the association tries to better the daily life of children, their mothers, villagers or handicapped people. An important part of the program is focused on prevention.
- Development projects.
Whether it be professional training workshops (joinery, shoemaking and repairing, printing), courses given to mothers (hygiene, nutrition), training of qualified staff, or creations of schools, all projects supported by Morija aim for the future. Their attempt is to train parents adequately and guarantee the future of children and teenagers, who are the adults of tomorrow.
