Health Centers (IHC, MSC)

 

Although improvement is noticeable, only 48% of the southern Sahara population can benefit from continuous and sustainable healthcare. Along with new illnesses resulting in high mortality rates (AIDS, for example), other diseases which were thought to have been eliminated, have not only resurfaced but have intensified.

Goal: Improve the health conditions of a population comprised mainly of farmers.

In the north of Cameroon, the Integrated Health Center of Guider in the department of Mayo-Louti, officially reaches 12 villages representing about 17,000 people. It actually serves a region that is much larger as one third of the patients come from other localities.

In northern Togo, the Medical and Social Center of Farendé is responsible for the canton of Lama-Dessi representing about 7,000 people. However, about 12,000 people visit this center each year.

The above-mentioned areas have seen a huge improvement in the level of health of their populations. The personnel employed in these centers is 100% African.

  • Prenatal consultations
  • Preventive and curative consultations (adults and children)
  • Pre-school consultations
  • Daytime Center for Recovery and Nutritional Education for malnourished children
  • Vaccinations at the center but also by visiting the villages
  • Health education
  • Laboratory
  • Sanitation of wells
  • Medical and Social Center for maternity and hospitalization
  • Medical and Social Center for prevention and hygiene (meat control)
  • Impregnation of mosquito screens
