Handicapped (CHK)

Life in Africa is tough. Living conditions are extreme and provoke a large number of accidents. In Europe, the results would be insignificant but in Africa due to the lack of sanitary aid, accidents often result in amputation, traumatism, deformation, paraplegia, tetraplegia, etc. The victims do not have our means and are therefore reduced to pulling themselves around on their hands and begging for survival.

Goal: Give healthcare to the handicapped.

Situated in Kaya, province of Sanmatenga, in Burkina Faso, the CHK is the only orthopedic center in the region and also the largest in West Africa. The center is totally africanized.

  • It deals with patients needing physical therapy. If surgery is required, the patients are directed to the regional hospital of Kaya.
  • It manufactures orthopedic apparati (canes, crutches, protheses, etc.)
  • Sensitization campaigns are aimed at helping prevention and healthcare education among the population as well as improving the social status of handicapped persons.
  • Depending on the importance of the treatment, patients sometimes stay for a period of many months. During this time, they are given literacy lessons.
  • A pastor, chaplain of the center, organizes group prayers for those who wish to participate.
  • A medical aid, responsible for hygiene, helps sensitize those patients needing help in this area.
